Wow – a derecho.  Had never heard that term before.

Unless you’re like my brother-in-law and have been hiding under a rock (true story – he called this morning and said “was it really that bad? We were in the basement reading books”), you had to know that the storm of the year just rolled through the New River Valley (and much of the Mid-Atlantic) last night.

Thankfully, no reports of fatalities or injuries here in the New River Valley, but there were some in the Northern Virginia area.  Much of the area is without power, as well – Appalachian Power is asking that people not call to ask when it’ll be turned back on, they’re trying their best to work quickly.
