dare to be different Blacksburg   First, and Wire FreeGood piece on Handshake 2.0 this morning about Blacksburg’s place in the history of the online world.  Contrary to popular belief, Al Gore had no involvement.

Some firsts in Blacksburg’s role of the online revolution:

  • First store online – Wade’s Flower and Gift Shop
  • First grocery store online – Wade’s Foods
  • First school system to offer Internet access – Montgomery County School System
  • First real estate agency to offer real estate listings online – Raines Real Estate

The names may have changed, and someone else may be more popular, but they won’t be first. And Blacksburg – and New River Valley – companies continue to be among the leaders in the high-tech industry.  Thanks to
