Now And Then – A Look Into The Past

by Jeremy on March 3, 2008

There’s a cool new publication out that, if you have any interest in downtown Blacksburg, you should really check out.  It’s called 16 Blocks, and refers to the the historic 16 Blocks of the original downtown area.  It’s got an alternative vibe to it, but most everything in Blacksburg has that – we like to think of ourselves as a little bit
different, I think.  It’s a free publication – I picked mine up at Cafe de Bangkok, but you can find it just about everywhere.

Here’s the logo from their paper, check them out.

What caught my eye about this particular issue was an article about downtown Blacksburg – what it looked like, how it’s changed, and what’s similar.  I really like the history of places, so I got into this a little bit.  One piece is about "The Mill", and the other is about "The Ellett Building".  Check them out, and look for 16 Blocks next time you’re out downtown.

I wonder if any other communities have done the same, highlighting the changes in their own downtown areas – perhaps Christiansburg or Radford, maybe Pearisburg?
