Is Your Home Really Safe?

So you’re selling your home.  You’ve got a great team of agents working for you, an awesome listing and it’s in tip-top shape.  But how safe is your home as other agents bring their buyer clients through your home?

It’s not easy to have absolute strangers roaming through your home while you’re not there, and as a seller YOU SHOULD NOT BE THERE if you can at all help out.  Get out of the house, let buyers talk freely with their agent about what they do and don’t like about your home.  It’ll help you get a better idea of how to properly prepare for the next showing!  There are certainly some things I’d always recommend before opening your home for buyers to view, including removing prescription medications and securing guns and ammunition.

But are you really safe?

It depends, but agents in our area do a good job of monitoring their clients as they go through homes.  NewhouseOne way that we can go even further is to install a lockbox on the door, which will limit access to ONLY licensed REALTORS registered with our local REALTOR Association, and will allow your own agent to view who’s been through the house, on what date and at what time.  Locally, we use RISCO Lockboxes
, which have an infra-red  sensor on the front of the box.  This sensor allows listing agents to view who’s been through the house, and allows buyer agents to access the key.   It’s a good idea because it allows only registered users to enter your home, preventing the unauthorized entry that a standard "tumbler" lockbox might allow for.

Great article. I tell my clients to hide their prescription meds and take them out of the medicine cabinet, especially any narcotics. That is the only thing I have ever had stolen from a listing…It’s hard to watch people in a bathroom!
